No Photoshop For These Beauties
We've all rolled our eyes at the over-retouched magazine covers of late. The ones that make Jen Aniston look like a cartoon or Faith Hill's arms look like noodles. Models and actresses who want to sound evolved and unaffected rant about the retouching process, all the while employing teams of makeup artists and spray-tanners before stepping out in public.
We mock Photoshop, but there seems to be no slowing of the digital nip-and-tucking. Well, until now.
French Elle is taking a dramatic step by filling their latest issue with stunning photographs of gorgeous women sans makeup or retouching.
Will this spark a new trend? Only time will tell. And while Monica Bellucci is still exponentially more attractive than the majority of the general population, it's refreshing to see a human face on a cover for a change.
Also featured are Eva Herzigova, Inès de la Fressange, Sophie Marceau, Anne Parillaud, Karin Viard, Charlotte Rampling, and Chiara Mastroianni.
I wouldn't mind seeing an American or Canadian magazine do the same. Honestly, Angelina, we'd still love you with your I'm-a-mom-of-six bags under your eyes. And Gwen Stefani, a shot without your signature red lipstick and perfect eyeliner won't hurt your career. A couple laugh lines might even help it.
What do you think? Are you applauding Elle's move? Or are you hesitant to embrace something that will most likely be a one-time stunt at a time when magazine sales are lagging?
