How-to tips for perm care.

Long, sexy curls are in for hairstyles this season and you can see them bouncing all over Hollywood and even at TIFF! Natalie Portman attended the film premiere for her thriller Black Swan here in Toronto, glammed up to the nines with a big, beautiful cascade of curls! Many women are noticing that trying to get those lustrous locks in sexy spirals every day is tedious, and are going the way of the perm. Whoa, that word brings to mind some pretty scary 80's fros, doesn't it? You might be surprised at just how popular the chemical perm is becoming again! One treatment and you're good to go for the next few months! Are you wondering if a perm is right for you? If you're considering giving your straight hair a voluminous lift, please read this how-to list!

No Colour - Perms work best on hair that has not been coloured or no longer has colour product in it. If you've been growing it out and the last couple of inches are still a bit coloured, that's not really an issue. But a whole head of chemicals is so if you're a loyal hair dyer, this is the time to quit!

Consultation - Book an appointment with your stylist to discuss EXACTLY what you want!

Curl size - The tightness of the curl depends on the type of curling rod used. Usually there are two types offered, one for bigger, softer curls and a smaller one for if you want to look like Beyonce. You can do one and have a few of the other but it's important to be CLEAR with your stylist about what you're looking for.

Thick hair works best!

How long it lasts - About 3-6 months

Hydrate - The most essential part of maintaining curly hair is hydration; you NEED to keep your hair hydrated! Those curls are going to get thirsty quick so be sure to use moisturizing conditioner often. To prepare for the perm, avoid deep conditioning at least 24 hours before the perm.

Diffuse- Invest in a diffuser for the end of your blow dryer. Use this to style your hair after washing.
