Kiss Those Cracks Goodbye With Our Winter Foot Care Tips
Winter can wreak havoc on our looks. Our hair becomes a static-y mess of flyaways, our lips chap and peel, our skin flakes as the cold air zaps moisture from it. Blech!
However, out of all of the parts of the body that can crack and flake, our feet are the very worst case. As the temperature drops, the skin on our feet is more likely to become dry and rough, resulting in split skin around the heels and the toes. But smooth feet during the winter months are not totally impossible to achieve.
Read on to learn what you can do to keep your feet smooth, soft, and sexy all season long.
Invest in a good pair of winter boots
Proper winter footwear is the first step in preventing rough feet. If feet are routinely exposed to moisture and cold temperatures, the skin will dry and will become prone to painful cracks. Don't sacrifice function for fashion; choose a pair of boots made to keep feet warm and to block out wetness.
Exfoliate regularly
Like the skin on our faces, our feet need to be exfoliated to get rid of dead skin. At the end of your shower, use a pumice stone to scrub feet for three minutes. Follow with moisturizer. You can also try using a product like the Ped Egg or Revlon's Pedi-Expert Kit. The products essentially "grate" dead skin from the bottoms of feet. Be wary of how often you use these products; overuse can lead to raw, sore feet.
Moisturize daily
A powerful cream or lotion will help replenish moisture to the skin, which is key to keeping feet soft and smooth feet. Generously apply moisturizer after showering and before bed. Wearing cotton socks after moisturizing is recommended to help skin retain the lotion. We like Eucerin Smoothing Foot Creme with 10% Urea and Dr. Scholl's For Her Ultra Overnight Foot Cream.
Get regular pedicures
If it's within your budget to do so, go for monthly pedicures during the winter months. The regular foot treatments, combined with a home routine of exfoliation and moisturizing, will help keep feet soft, smooth, and ready for spring.
