Foot Fad: Plastic Surgery For Your Feet?

Is The Newest Plastic Surgery Procedure One Step Too Far?

altHow far would you go for a pair of killer heels? Many women fork out the cash for sexy new shoes (see: Carrie Bradshaw), but some more extreme cases are prepared to go under the knife, too.

Reports of a woman who was so keen to wear heels and underwent surgery to do so has totally shocked us.  The woman paid a plastics specialist to dislocate her toe and saw out a two millimeter chunk of bone, which was then reattached with a titanium rod - all so her teeny tootsies could saunter in style.

Think she's crazy? There's more. Another cosmetic procedure involves liposuction, taking fat from the belly and placing it on the ball of the foot for extra padding and comfort.

Podiatrist Ali Sadrieh in Beverly Hills performs the toe shortening surgery and operated on Audy, the woman who is spreading the word.

"All the girls are wearing cute high heels, open toes and they look pretty, and me -- I have to wear always closed shoes because I feel like they're staring at my long toe," she told ABC News.

This toe trimming business isn't exactly sweeping the nations just yet, but with all kinds of technology and plastic surgery options these days, we may not be that far off from a new fashion trend. Don't get too excited about being footloose and fancy free just yet, though. The procedures are largely frowned upon by The American Podiatric Medical Association and officially opposed by the American Orthopedic Foot and Ankle Society (AOFAS) because of risks and complications that follow the operation. Nerve damage and scarring are just a few of the potential side effects.

What do you think? Would you take your footwear fetish to the next level?
