In Lust With Lime Crime

Go Bright Or Go Home

altWhen you’re putting on makeup, do you tend to air on the side of caution? Do you use neutrals, skin tones, and sheer gloss? Do you lean towards earth tones, beiges, greiges, and browns?

Ugh. BOR-ING!

Why not live a little? Have fun with your makeup! Experiment with colour. After all, there’s no law that says makeup can't get creative.

And if there was, it we be called a Lime Crime. (Sorry, we just couldn’t resist...)

When our samples came in the mail, every single writer immediately pounced on the bright blue package, wildly curious as to what was inside. In the end, after drawing proverbial straws, I was the lucky one who got to take it all home to try. And try. And try some more. And now I'll probably never give it back...

Born of one New York makeup artists' dream to find makeup colours that were bright enough for her tastes, the self-proclaimed “Unicorn Queen” Doe Deere set out to make something that was “so bright it's illegal!”

The playfully coloured makeup comes in bright purple and green packaging with a silver unicorn. Anything with a unicorn for a mascot has to be good, right?

I love their Magic Dust shadows. It's vegan loose eye shadow - light and sheer enough to wear everyday, but with a perfect pop of colour for that mysterious sparkle. If you're looking for something a little more subtle, a liquid transformer has these pots doing double duty as shiny, new liners. But if you want to be more daring, go heavy with your application for a vivid swatch of colour that will catch anyone’s eye. The perfect look for, say... ringing in New Year's Eve 2011?

Even the names are fun! You've got - Top Hattie (white), Circus Girl (bright yellow), Troubadour (teal), Cupcake Thief (light pink), Medusa (black), Mischief Managed (kelly green), Abracadabra (purple) and Siren (red). Go ahead, indulge in the rainbow!

The lipstick delivers the same kind of payoff. With a finish that's akin to a lip stain, the colour lasted all day on just one application! And trust me. If you're looking for compliments, with colours like Centrifuschia (a bright pink with blue undertones), Styletto (a delicious black that's not for the faint of heart), Retrofuturist (your classic red), and Contessa Fluorescent (a pink so perfect Barbie couldn't resist it), you're definitely going to get them!

Another thing you can't help but love about Lime Crime products, they're 100 per cent cruelty free, and never tested on animals, or unicorns. Ever.

Born in Toronto, Hilary Lauren Fox is an only child to artist parents - mom was an illustrator and pattern maker, dad was a painter.  Rather then studying the arts as her parents hoped for, Hilary opted for a degree in psychology with dreams of working in a clinical setting. But after graduating she realized that the apple doesn't fall far from the tree and that the arts was in her blood, applying her education within the art and fashion world.
