How To Get Perfect Eyebrows

Style The Hair Up There

altEyebrows are a natural frame for the eyes and should be in proportion to the face. Perfectly shaped eyebrows will enhance the look of your eyes and face and will accentuate your makeup.

If ill-kept, unruly eyebrows will hide the beauty of your eyes. Open your face and your eyes and see how shaping the perfect brows can easily change your look.

Get In Shape:
Shape is crucial as size, colour and length. Your shape will depend on the thickness of hair, and your face shape. The perfect eyebrow starts above the inside corner of your eye (over the tear duct), and ends at the outside corner, above your eyelashes. Eyebrows should have an arch, and a natural looking one - Ideally, the arch happens over the iris, the colored part of your eye. It should be gentle, so if you’re planning to reshape your arch, take it very, very slowly. Do a hair or two a day – it takes just the pluck of one wrong hair to completely change the brow shape. Careless plucking will leave you looking surprised, but not in a good way. Also, your brows [there should be two of them] will never look exactly the same, so use the brother-sister rule; related but not identical.

Tweeze With Ease:
Pluck only from the underside of the brow in the direction that the hair is growing. Don't pluck from the top of the brow and chance plucking too much, thereby losing the shape of the brow. You may also want to pluck any stray hairs between the brows. Your brow should start right above the inner corner of your eye. To determine where the eyebrow should start, place a pencil against the nostril and line it up with the inner corner of your eye. Your eyebrow should end at a diagonal with the outer corner of your eye. Be careful when you tweeze; if you are unsure go to a professional. Incorrect tweezing can ruin the look of your eyebrows and after a certain time the eyebrow will not grow back. If you do use a professional, keep regular appointments and don't let your eyebrows get too unruly between appointments. Or, after you've had a professional do your eyebrows, keep them in shape by plucking the stray hairs as they grow.  We like: Tweezerman Slant Tweezers - Assorted Colors, $20

So Gelly:
Finally, keeping your brows neat can be done with special eyebrow gel, or you can use a little hair gel to smooth them and keep them shapely. If you find your eyebrows are starting to thin, use a brow color to fill them in using feather strokes; do not draw on lines in place of eyebrows. Brows should be the same color as your hair or a shade lighter. We like: Anastasia Brow Gel, $21, Laura Mercier Eyebrow Pencil, $19

Brush & Trim:
As you would with the hair on your head, your eyebrows need to be groomed with brushing and trimming. Trim your eyebrows periodically, paying attention to the start and ends. Trim if single hairs are long and thick. You can pluck some hairs and trim the others, brushing them up, evening the ends (be careful not to trim too much!), then brushing them down checking again and again, as you go along.
