Protecting your hair from the summer sun

altIt can be fun to spend time under the sun during the summer, but ultraviolet rays can do a number on your hair and skin. Instead of allowing the sunlight to penetrate through your luscious locks and cause damage, Cosmopolitan recommends taking the following tips into consideration:

1. Wear a head scarf of a hat. It may not seem fashionable, but you'll be doing your hair a favor by shielding it from the summer elements.

2. Use color protection spray. If you have highlights or just can't keep yourself away from the salon, don't let your money go to waste - invest in a color-protecting spray. This can keep the sun from damaging your hair and turning it into a less-desirable color.

3. Use SPF protection. Many people think that the sun can't penetrate through a full head of hair, but this is simply false, and there's nothing worse than a burnt, itchy scalp! Apply a light spray-on sunscreen over your locks to prevent your scalp from enduring the wrath of the sun.

4. Use a leave-in conditioner. This can keep your locks tame after a day under the sun and outside in the summer humidity.
