Sprays, wipes and lotions, oh my! With more ways to get that summer glow than ever before, standing in the convenience store aisle checkin' out the fake tanners can feel more overwhelming than even the most seasoned fake-bakers remember. Which self-tanning method is right for you? And how can you ensure an even color that'll look just as natural as if you'd spent all summer at the beach?
Lotions are the most traditional self-tanning method. If you're naturally fair, stay away from anything labeled "deep" or "dark" - for something with the words "natural," "light" or "medium" on the label and apply more daily to build the perfect tan. With lotions, it's important to make sure that you blend the cream on evenly, or you could end up looking streaky. We suggest a tinted lotion so you can see where you've already applied - and go easy on your ankles, knees and elbows! Don't forget to wash your hands when you've finished, too.
Sprays are another easy way to apply an all-over summery glow. With a spray, however, you have a little less control than with a lotion - especially when it comes to areas like your face and back. Ask a friend to help you with any places you can't easily reach, and be careful not to get dressed or touch yourself until the spray is totally dry.
Wipes are the newest self-tanning method. These pre-moistened towlettes are easy to swipe over legs, arms, chest and face, but it can be hard to tell just how much tanner you're actually applying - which might lead to uneven areas. However, the ease and convenience of the pre-packaged wipes are a huge advantage.
So how should you fake tan? It's up to you! But remember, whichever method you choose is still far healthier than hours in a tanning bed - your skin will thank you later.
