The Gift With Purchase: Is It A Scam?

Don't Be Suckered Into Paying More Than You Should

altWhen the flyer comes out, we can't help but get a little bit excited. FREE GIFT WITH PURCHASE!!! Right on!

Everyone loves to get free stuff, so when you see your favourite make-up line having a gift with purchase (GWP) event, of course you're going to check it out.

It's so hard to say no to something, anything, that's followed by the word 'free'. But sometimes, the purchase just isn't really worth it.

To see if the GWP is really worth your hard earned money, you must first ask yourself some questions:

1. Do you need to buy anything?
Sure, you might be able to rationalize that you will eventually need some cleanser, moisturizer, etc. but if I don't need anything at the time - don't get it, that simple.

2. Do the numbers make sense?
Do the math. There is always a certain amount that you need to spend to get a GWP, and one item doesn't always get you there. However, two items could end up being a lot more than just your one desired item that comes as a GWP...

3. Will you use most of the items in the GWP? Or do you just like the 'free' part?
Sure, that shade of lipstick looks nice, but will it suit your colouring? And yes, everyone needs a moisturizer, but is that particular one good for your skin type? If you're not going to use almost all of the items, keep your money. So, while everyone likes free stuff, always consider these questions. You could end up saving yourself money in the long run, something else everyone likes.
