Exploring Your Hood

Save Your Cash And See The City

When planning a vacation we are often eager to get out of the city and explore new places. Because of this urge to travel elsewhere, people often forget to enjoy all that our own city has to offer.

Rather than booking a long flight and suffering jet lag, or spending several hours in a car or bus, consider trying out a variation on a stay-cation.

Disconnect yourself from your home life as you would if you went away on vacation. Try turning off your phone and avoid checking your emails.

Next, pick out some tourist spots that you have never been to, or revisit some of your favourites. Explore the city as if you were only there for a limited time.

Test out a new restaurant. Do you love Italian? Do you go crazy for Chinese? Look in the Zagat and find a recommended restaurant that you have never been to that serves your favourite cuisine. Or walk around downtown and find a restaurant that looks interesting.
Pick the restaurant the same way you would if you were on vacation, rather than going to the same old neighbourhood favourite.

Finally, why not get a hotel for a night? Get one near the tourist spots you are planning on visiting, this way you can avoid getting distracted by household chores.

Commit to your at home vacation and you will get to rediscover your city and get to enjoy yourself as if you actually had a holiday.
