Hilary Duff Releases Novel
Celebs are known for being highly ambitious in every market they can manage to break into. Fashion, footwear, perfume, acting, singing, dancing, even cleaning products. Every now and then they surprise us with the debut of their new money making hobby, and lately the star of the hour is Hilary Duff. The American pop singer and actress whose fame started as Lizzie McGuire on the Disney channel, later evolving into a music and film career, has found her way into other endeavors. Did anyone expect her next big hit to be a novel? Not us!
Yes, it's true. The young adult fiction section of your local Barnes & Noble is now stocked with Duff's first literary achievement, a novel called Elixir. It has been described as a paranormal suspense thriller and is the first of what promises to be a series of sequels, co-written by author Elise Allen.
In an interview with Seventeen Magazine, she discussed her long time goal of novel writing.
"I have been playing with the idea for a few years now. It's a lot of fun and at the same time, very challenging."
So far the reviews of Elixir have been positive and glowing, a surprise to anyone who has ever purchased a book written by a barely legal celebrity, or read the lyrics to any Hilary Duff album. We have to wonder if the assistance from Elise Allen is a bit more than collaborative, but the publication's ranking on the New York Times Best Sellers list peaks our curiosity at the very least.
Who knows, at this rate perhaps Elixir will find its way onto an ivy league English Literature syllabus, and before you know it listed among the classics in the literary canon, next to The Odyssey and Gone With The Wind?
Probably not, though.
