The Media Vs. Nadya Suleman

Public Backlash: "Octo-Mom" is Up for a Reality Show and A Book Deal

If Nadya Suleman's story ever played out in a TV movie, the casting directors would be looking for an "Angelina Jolie-type" actress. And that may be no accident.

The mother of 14 who recently gave birth to a set of octuplets will appear on the cover of Life & Style magazine alongside her celebrity doppelganger and the possible subject of her obsession, Angelina Jolie. Access Hollywood has also noted the resemblance. Angelina has three biological kids and three adopted children. Suleman has 14. Despite the similaries, Octo-mom denies that she has any obsession with Angelina on Dateline NBC. Regardless, the eerie similarity between the two pouty-lipped brunettes is uncanny.

The mainstream media is viciously attacking Suleman, basically calling her a tax burden and a welfare monger. There is a much deeper cultural condition that pits prolific childbearing in a complicated light. Marketing machines make sure that we are crazy about "all things baby" while pharmaceutical companies profit from an increasingly sterile population.

Radar Online reports that Suleman has secretly been staying in a hotel for the past week and asked the question: Are taxpayers footing the bill for the welfare mom with 14 kids? Is taxpayer money being used to pay Octo-mom's hotel bill while she makes the interview circuit?

Perez Hilton Asks: "And if Octo-Mom doesn't think that food stamps are funded by taxpayer's money, where does she think they come from? From food stamp trees?"

Yes, "Octo-Mom" is up for a reality show and a book deal. But that's because producers and publishers think our culture is hungry for this kind of voyeurism.
