Well, That Was Quick -- Red Carpet Newbie Caught in First Scandal

Slumdog Millionaire star Freida Pinto's meteoric rise from unknown to breakout star has been a fairytale that only could be scripted in Hollywood.

But the fairytale might be turning into a nightmare amid speculation from The Daily Mail and a number of India-based newspaper report that the actress is either engaged or secretly married to Rohan Antao, a 25-year-old marketing director in Mumbai. So basically, Janet Jackson Secret Marriage: The Sequel.

But once her career took off, so did she. From "who?" to "Freida, over here!" to tabloid headliner in less than a year? It's like Lindsay Lohan's entire career on fast-forward.

The Times of India reported a friend saying: '[They] were deeply in love with each other. Rohan and Freida had decided to keep their marriage a secret till they felt ready to talk about it openly. Even though she has dumped her husband now, he is not the kind who will go out and speak against her."

Pinto's response? "At the moment, my profession dominates my life. Do you have any proof [about the marriage]? No one has the right to spoil my happiness." Wow. The big-screen starlet sounds more like a wicked witch than a celluloid princess. No doubt her agent is arranging a seat on Oprah's or Barbara Walters' sofa for the big sniffle-and-cry tour.

When presented with her comments, Antao declared, "Let me speak with her. Has she really given this statement to the media? She could be talking about something else." Clearly he's going through all the stages of a jilted lover: shock, denial and reluctant acceptance. Antao has reportedly changed his relationship status on Facebook from 'committed' to 'single.'

Evidently the only man Pinto has time for is Oscar. Slumdog is a contender for Best Picture during Sunday's awards show.
