Emerging Mezzo-Soprano Performs at St. Lawrence Centre for the Arts
In a bold move, Kerry Connelly, a veteran marketing and communications specialist, who has worked with organizations from the Toronto International Film Festival Group, to Vision Group of Companies, overseeing brands such as XM Satellite Radio and the Steve Nash Foundation; has recently decided to put her career on hold to pursue her dream of becoming a professional performer.
When I first revealed my plans to sing and perform, people were quite surprised to learn about my true passion, but they have since been tremendously supportive, says Connelly. However, the thirty-three year-old Slocan Valley, British Columbia native is in fact a classically trained singer who honed her craft a number of years ago while studying voice performance at McGill University.
Over the last number of years Connelly has participated in classical voice Master Classes in Vienna, Paris, New York and Toronto, and most recently at the prestigious Cabaret Conference at Yale University. She has since developed an exciting vocal repertoire that includes German Leider, Spanish and French Classical Art Songs, Opera, Cabaret, Jazz Standards, and Musical Theatre.
And last year, in a bold move to re-invent her career, Connelly produced and starred in a one-woman show at the Isabel Bader Theatre in Toronto. The show was a huge success, with over 500 guests in attendance, and helped catapult Connelly one step closer to her dream. Last year's performance electrified me, and furthered my conviction to purse my goal of performing, confirms Connelly.
This year Connelly will perform two shows on May 21st, and 22nd at the Jane Mallett theatre at the St. Lawrence Centre for the Arts, where she'll perform some of her favorite repertoire by Stephen Sondheim, George Bizet and Steven Schwartz to name a few. And following her live performances, Connelly's next steps include producing a CD which will be launched at a series of Christmas concerts later this year.
Kerry Connelly takes the stage on Wednesday May 20th and Thursday May 21st at the Jane Mallett Theatre at the St. Lawrence Centre for the Arts located at 27 Front St. East. Tickets are $50.00 and are available at: 416-366-7723 or www.stlc.com.
