Dancing in the Streets and Cheap Eats!
Kicking off this weekend, the Luminato Festival of Arts and Creativity will turn Toronto's streets, galleries and public spaces (and dare we say it, soul) into a ten day party of all things arty.
Featuring local, national and international artists Luminato, the largest multi-disciplinary festival in North America, boasts hundreds of events covering everything from outdoor concerts to lunchtime chats with creative types. Highlights include a sizzling re-interpretation of Carmen by Italian choreographer Davide Bombana. a one night only performance by Emmylou Harris, Patty Griffin, Shawn Colvin and Buddy Miller at Massey Hall and 1000 Tastes of Toronto, where the cities' best restaurants serve up gourmet street food for a pocket friendly $5.00 a pop.
And at festival hub Dundas Square there's plenty to do without parting with your pennies. Learn to shake it at the Open Air Dance Series, catch a performance by world renowned dance company Nederland Dans Theatre (pictured) or help get Toronto into the Guinness Book of World Records by participating in the world's biggest guitar jam!
Join the party this Friday night when L'Oreal Paris offers complimentary makeup
and hair makeovers (you can read all about it here) and Randy Bachman of Bachman Turner Overdrive headlines the free opening night concert with The Canadian Tenors, fresh off their recent performance with Sheryl Crow and Sting. Toronto, thy festival season has begun!
