Toronto's Best & Most Beautiful Join Together For Boobyball
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and all around the country we're bombarded with pink. Personally, I don't love the colour, but for a cause - this cause - I'll be a sport.
Pink ribbons, pink t-shirts, and pink bumper stickers are commonplace at this time each year. But last week, Boobyball added a bit of sparkle to the rosy trend, switching it up and getting us excited for an event that truly warms the hearts of everyone here at WOMAN.ca!
When ReThink Breast Cancer invited us to their annual MTV sponsored Boobyball event, a gathering of some of Toronto's finest and funnest (that's a word now, you know), we anticipated nothing but the best.
And, yes. That's just what what we got.
Launched in 2001, ReThink is the first Breast Cancer charity to present relevant information to a target crowd of women. Apparently, charity events don't have to take place in church parking lots, or dated banquet halls either.
ReThink looks for bold, sassy, stylish women, and crafts a fundraising event to match. Gifted to ReThink Breast Cancer in 2009 from Ashleigh Dempster
and Amanda Blakley, co-founders of The Society Global, Boobyball continues its tradition as a glamorous event aimed at raising money and stimulating awareness for breast cancer.
This year's party was every bit as lively as the invitation promised, and WOMAN.ca's cameras were there to capture the action.
The theme for this year's bash was "70's Glam" and the sweaty Disco Inferno did not disappoint!
Kool Haus on Queens Quay East was transformed into Studio 54, and not a square inch of the space went without glitter or disco ball. Big hair and sequins were in abundance, but not at all blinding. The tackier the better.
Instantly upon arrival, rose champagne and platters of tasty salmon rolls (pink, pink, pink) were presented to guests by servers dressed to the nines, positively shimmering with 70's allure.
Food stations, mini art installations, candy display bars, and flashing lights complemented the darling DJ Vaneska. Later, DJ Allie Hughes kept us on our feet late into the night, and made it her personal goal to ensure that a "groovy" time was had by all.
Sponsored by Wyborowa, Beefeater, and Yellow Tail, the drinks were flowing all evening and the appetizers were offered at every turn. We had a chance to try the shanghai noodles at one of the food stations, and our verdict was a definite thumbs up. Delicious.
But equally as impressive as the food and the booze were the pretty people who got into character, and made the night a sheer success. Some of the stunners (slash Toronto Royalty) ripping up the dance floor included the beautiful Ainsley Kerr, Natasha Penzo, CP24's Melissa Grelo, Glenn Vogelsang, andPOP's handsome Jordan Bortolotti, as well as the crew from SheDoesTheCity, thinkCONTRA magazine, and The Globe and Mail.
Guess by Marciano offered a live photo shoot where guests could take snaps all night, and TELUS featured unique souvenir flipbooks. Notable attendees included co-chair Aliya-Jasmine Sovani of MTV News, honorary co-chair Sarah O'Regan, and Rookie Blues actor Travis Milne. Honorary mention for most fab guest goes to the half naked dude in the bath tub full of balloons.
The goal of this year's event was $140,000, which was not only met, but exceeded. Funds raised marked upwards of $1 million.
We dig it!
Can't wait to see what you come up with next year.
