Still Loving The King Of Pop

Unmistakably, the world came to a standstill, with the passing of Michael Jackson, the King of Pop, in June of 2009. Effervescent and inspirational, Jackson will always be with us.

As I listen to the uplifting “Hold My Hand,” featuring Akon, the first official single from “Michael” – a posthumous compilation album by the late Michael Jackson, I reflect on how many lives this music icon has touched with his artistry and big heart.

Released on December 14, 2010, many find it disrespectful for Jackson’s unfinished material to be revealed without his consent. It’s an unsettling controversy, but today, WOMAN.ca focuses on only positive news to celebrate a legacy that continues to transcend generations, starting with his three solo concert tours - the greatest entertainment events in modern history.

It all began in 1987, when Jackson touched ground in 15 countries with the Bad World Tour, featuring 123 concerts for 4.4 million fans.  Revered as the biggest and most successful tour of all time, it grossed $125 million.

Despite declaring to never tour again (oh are we glad that you changed your mind Michael) he came back in 1992 with the Dangerous World Tour, a show so huge that two Boeing 747s, better known by its moniker “Jumbo Jet,” were required to transport all the equipment. With pyrotechnics, countless illusions, and a stuntman, it proved to be an even bigger success. But even more impressive was Jackson’s big heart – as always. He donated the profits from the entire tour to charity, staying true to his message of spreading global love.

Then, he launched his third and final tour, the HIStory World Tour, in 35 countries on five continents, in 1996. With 82 concerts for 4.5 millions fans, it grossed a total of $165 million, breaking his own world record – once more.
Now, the legend lives on with Michael Jackson THE IMMORTAL World Tour by Cirque de Soleil and the Estate of Michael Jackson.

Directed by Jamie King, the leading concert director in the world of pop music today, this musical tribute to the King of Pop is for everyone – from die-hard Michael Jackson fans to those who are just getting their first glimpse into the artist’s creative inner world.

Regardless of which category you fall under, Jackson’s artistry will unfold before your eyes, along with a riveting fusion of visuals, dance, music and fantasy. The show will blend the artist’s powerful music with Cirque du Soleil's famous dance and acrobatics.

With unforgettable performances that literally turn his signature moves upside down, Michael Jackson THE IMMORTAL World Tour captures the essence of the King of Pop, underscoring Jackson’s global message of love, peace, and unity.

Later this year, Michael Jackson THE IMMORTAL World Tour will hit 30 cities and counting - in North America. For now, the tour is slated to last until July of 2012, with the first show opening on October 2, 2011, in Montreal.
