Survey Shows A Majority of Young People Are Career-Focused, Not Family Focused
Just the other day, my boyfriend turned to me in the car and asked, “what’s with our generation and the fear of growing up, getting married and having kids?”
Although
the term “our generation” is rather loosely defined, the statistics are
crystal clear. We are waiting later and later to get married, and even
later to have kids. Have we become so “into ourselves” that we have no
time for spouses and offspring?
The answer? Probably.
A
new study claims that not only have we become too self-involved and
career focused for marriage and children, we’ve now even given up on
raising puppies!
In
an online survey, Flexcin International asked approximately 1,250 pet
owners nationwide between the ages of 21-30 what kind of dog they would
prefer to adopt: a puppy or an adult.
Everyone loves puppies. They’re cute, and sweet, and small, and you could just eat them up, right?
Wrong. 61 per cent said they would rather adopt an older dog instead of a little puppy!
Why?
The majority of those asked, 89 per cent, said that they didn't have the time or patience to care for a new puppy due to their demanding
careers. Even more shocking, more than half of the people who were
surveyed, a mind-blowing 54 per cent, said they are either presently choosing, or would choose, to have a
dog over a child because they can’t take time away from their lives to
meet the needs of a baby!
Although this may mean bad news for day-care workers and nursery teachers, it's great news for dog shelters and breeders! Woof!
