Being overweight is tough. Not only can it be bad for your social and love lives, it's also very detrimental to your health. And as if all that weren't enough, being overweight can even be a problem in your professional life - especially if you're a woman. A recent study conducted in Iceland found that " there's a slightly negative correlation between the weight and employment rate of women, and a slightly positive correlation for men," reports Jezebel. " The research was conducted in Iceland because a World Economic Forum study found it's the country with the greatest gender equality."
So women are punished professionally for being overweight, while men get off scot-free even when their waistlines expand? It doesn't seem fair, but it makes sense. Even in a professional setting, women are expected to be made-up and perfectly coiffed - although, admittedly, men are also encouraged to be clean-shaven and hygienic. Still, in a world where a woman's worth is still largely determined by how physically attractive she is, it's disheartening to hear that attractiveness plays a roll even in the aspects of our lives that have the least to do with how we look.
