How To Spark A Spring Fling

alt

Well, our clocks have officially sprung forward and now it’s about time for our love life to follow suit. Romance seekers who are already feeling the buzz of Spring in their bones are not necessarily looking for a ‘forever home’ for their hearts. Maybe something more along the lines of a boarding house, or a cheap motel. Temporary, in any case.

That’s right, a bona fide Spring fling.

We may not know a whole lot about tracking down the exact location of your undiscovered soul mate, but we think we’ve got a few good tips on how to pair up this season with a little fling. Here they are:

Go for a Spring stroll
Now that the air is lighter and the sun is showing its face more often, the sidewalks are obviously going to be flooded with potentially perfect matches! This is prime time for singles to take to the streets in search of an eligible bachelor. Put on your cutest dress and heels and go for a walk downtown or through the park. Should you by chance ( rather, fate! serendipity!) happen upon a handsome stranger, you would be remiss in your duties as a flirtatious opportunist if you did not bat those pretty eyelashes and signal a ‘come hither’ look in his direction. Men love that. Flash a smile, wave, twirl... if you’re lucky the wind will be brisk enough to blow your dress up and give you a sexy Marilyn Monroe moment.

Frequent a hipster coffee bar

Everyone loves coffee. Especially hipsters. It’s the one beverage that can bring people together in an entirely sober, non-regrettable way, sparking insightful conversation and many laughs. But more importantly, there are always cute guys in coffee shops. Cute guys with thick rimmed glasses, plaid shirts, and Mac laptops, listening to music that you've never heard of through headphones that are bigger than earmuffs. However, if the one you’re interested in works behind the counter, our advice is to go there so many times in a day - making it very clear each time that you only want to be served by him - that he will not only become familiar with your drink order, but after some time you notice that he starts to head into the back room every time he sees you walk in. Congratulations girl, he's smitten! Don’t mistake his bashfulness for the brush-off. He’s totally in to you, so much so that he’s a nervous wreck when he sees you enter. Nothing a little sweet coaxing can’t fix to lure him out of his shell again. Ask the other baristas to go and get him for you at the request of a “special customer”. Men love that.

Frequent a seedy dive bar
Where does a man go to forget about his troubles in life? Easy. He goes to the bar to pound back a couple brewskis. A lost soul couldn’t be any luckier than to find the woman of his dreams stumbling in to save the day. Celebrate St. Patty’s day by doing a pub crawl and scouring the scene for the sexiest red beard! Or, just a Saturday night out on the town with your girlfriends, looking for love. Or Wednesday during Happy Hour at the place down the street with the floor that you’re convinced is actually made of peanut shells and broken glass. I've heard Mondays in the hotel lounge are pretty good too. Oh, did we say hotel? We meant motel. The guy passed out at the bar looks so peaceful, he might be just your type when he’s fully conscious. March right up and Spring 'fling' him over your shoulder, carry him to your car, and take him home to bed. Men love to be taken care of. Oh, and don’t be picky. Love is in the air. So is booze. The two go well together, right? Men love that.

See a movie
Spring is known for rain, so when it's rainy, you hit the cinema. Why? Because you never know whose hand you may end up holding in the dark when you embark on a solo adventure to the movies. Pick the latest action thriller (because you know your Mr. Right isn’t at a chick flick unless he’s taken) and show up about thirty minutes early. Sit in the back row with a bag of popcorn and watch carefully as people start filtering in. There’s bound to be a few good picks to choose from, but the key is to pinpoint them while the lights are still on. Then, once you’ve narrowed down your selection to one particularly studly dream boat, make a mental note of where he’s seated and slip in beside him for a quick introduction during the trailers. If the theater is so congested with people that you’re not sure you can remember his placement, take a minute to draw a map for yourself on a napkin. This can even lead in to a charming pick up line or two. Get the usher to shine his flash light on your penned seating chart diagram and guide you to your man. Plop down and make some excuse about confusing him for your friend. Men love that.

Join a dating website
Some call it a last resort while more skilled daters understand that it's an immediate plan of action. Online dating is for people who know what they want and aren’t afraid to categorize their interests with check boxes. If you want the ultimate Spring fling with someone who’s on board for the time frame you’re offering (contract negotiable), give yourself the best marketing campaign with a winning dating profile that screams “WANTED: SPRING FLING!!!” and watch the messages roll in. Specify your terms. It’s really, really hard to find a decent man who is willing to commit to a 2-3 month short term stint involving mostly sex with the occasional dinner. But keep plugging away and the desires of your heart will be yours.
