Don't play the guilt game

altWe all know what it's like to feel guilty, especially when it comes to our relationships. While we sometimes feel guilty because we really did something wrong, it's not worth wasting your time feeling bad over something that isn't your fault. For example, if you want to end things with a guy you've been seeing, guilt over what your decision to leave might do to him is pointless and wasteful. Don't get guilted into doing things you don't want to do, whether it's in your relationship, your professional life or your friendships. "We've all been there, allowing guilt to rule our lives," says Jeannie Assimos of the eHarmony.com blog. Whether it's remaining in relationships because we place the other person's needs in front of our own, or allowing friends to guilt us into doing things we don't want to do, it's always better to trust that internal voice that says, I don't want to be here and I don't want to do this! What Assimos means is, don't feel bad saying "no." Sometimes it really is the right thing to say!
