You
already know that being a stage-five clinger from the moment you lay
eyes on a cute guy in the bar is a surefire way to make sure he never
calls you again, but should you really turn the tables 180 degrees and
start acting like you couldn't care less about him? According to the
eHarmony blog, playing "hard to get" really does make women more
desirable to men. So drop that phone and quit texting him - let him
chase you.
Your grandmother was right - you really are better off romantically if it's a little harder for a guy to catch and keep you. According to eHarmony, studies have shown that women who are attractive, reasonably youthful and "hard to get" are more reproductively valuable to men - a fancy way of saying that acting like you don't care if he calls you will all but guarantee that your phone will be ringing off the hook until you agree to go out with him.
"This theory suggests that 'playing hard to get' functions to test a man’s motivation, ability to invest resources (time, money, effort, etc.), and/or a sign of his fidelity," the site says.
Of course, it's important not to be too cold - the trick is in not being too available, which will make you appear desirable and valuable. Once you've got the guy, you can stop playing mind games and let him into your heart.
