We're Building Something Special Here
It's a quiet Sunday night here in Manhattan as the city awaits a snowstorm. A blizzard is what The Weather Network is calling it. I chuckle to myself when New Yorkers fret about snow, having been born and raised in Toronto and having lived three years in Montreal where this sort of inclement weather is taken in daily stride. I've spent the evening curled up watching Bob Fosse's All That Jazz, which I adore and recommend to all performers and musical lovers. Sufficiently renewed, I was inspired to shimmy across the room to my computer where I now face a pile of emails and work to tend to.
Finally. Here I am, excited to have this opportunity to share with you a glimpse of my life, some insights on the experiences I am having here in New York City and my perspective on relationships and healthy living!
When I was first approached to contribute as the Relationship & Counseling specialist, I was a bit hesitant. I am two years into my practice as a Mental Health Counselor and as I currently work in foster care, I'd say my specialty is children. However, my day-to-day life is rich with experiences that have taught me so many lessons I can share and frankly, it's not too infrequent the occasion where my days spent with children in need focus my aspirations for my own self and others around me.
WOMAN.ca has trusted me to express my interests - stories and thoughts which I hope will interest you. I will write about projects I am working on, interesting places I discover, intriguing people I encounter and common situations that I am approached about for advice.
I will also offer suggestions to questions you write in about! If you haven't already done so, set up your account so you can log in and become an active part of the WOMAN.ca community. We're building something special here.
Look out for My Friend Says, a column about my thoughts on some of the problems my friends bring to me. Also stay tuned for a look into Movement & Mindfulness, the yoga group I'm developing for adolescents in foster care. It's designed as a means to develop physical and emotional awareness, recognize and relieve stored bodily stress and integrate alternative methods of relieving anxiety.
Most importantly, I look forward to hearing from you. I'm a proud Canadian thrilled to be part of WOMAN.ca and looking forward to the journey ahead!
Wishing you Love, Light and Laughter,
xo Katia
