5 Ways To Stay Healthy When you Travel

Stay Healthy While You Travel With These 5 Tips:

My friend Evan took his niece to Israel for her Bat Mitzvah present and low and behold she's now sick in Tel Aviv. The poor girl is running a fever of 102! There is hardly anything scarier than being sick in a foreign country.

It's also no big shock that a lot of people get sick when they travel. On international flights you're stuck on a plane with re circulated air for 8+ hours and if one person is sick on your flight, chances are you're going to catch it as well.

Here are some tips to not getting sick while you travel:

  1. Hand Sanitizer - You're touching doorknobs and hand rails that are FULL of germs. You can't always count on soap and water so it's always a good idea to carry a small bottle of hand sanitizer. Make sure to buy one that is small enough to take as carry-on on your flight.
  2. Airborne - I swear by this stuff. It might not taste great, but these tablets are chock full of vitamins that help boost your immune system. It's meant to be pro-active so take it starting before you go on your next flight. http://airbornehealth.com/
  3. Sleep - Before I go on trips I usually have a few sleep deprived nights frantically getting ready. This surely doesn't help! Try to plan ahead and have at least 8 hours of sleep per night leading up to your trip.
  4. Eat Carefully - Familydoctor.org says, "Steaming-hot, well-cooked food is usually safest. Avoid eating foods from street vendors, unpasteurized dairy products and raw or uncooked seafood. Peel fruits yourself. Drink water from commercially-sealed bottles or drink carbonated beverages. Avoid ice. Use bottled water when you brush your teeth."
  5. Insect Repellent - Nobody likes mosquito bites but in foreign countries you especially need to be careful. These pesky blood suckers are known to carry malaria, yellow-fever, dengue fever, encephalitis and more. Depending on where you're traveling it might also be a good idea to bring mosquito netting to cover yourself with while sleeping.
Remember to be safe and have fun!
