Why Every Woman Should See Paris (At Least) Once

alt

The clothes.
Paris is arguably the Fashion capitol of the world.  Ahem, Coco Chanel. No, but seriously, Parisians won’t be caught dead wearing sweatpants in public and always look their best even when out to a casual bistro dinner. The boutiques in Paris are said to be unlike anywhere else. And there are lots of them.  Every woman should visit The Kooples, a favourite of stylish Parisian women (and men). Sort of like their version of H&M. But better. The Kooples boutiques can be found throughout the many arrondissements of Paris. And then there’s Rue Saint-honore. The famous street is home to the major stores like Marc Jacobs, Miu Miu, Mulberry and Colette. Ah, Colette – a reason to visit Paris on it’s own.

The food.
Obviously. There are cheese shops on every corner. There are even restaurants dedicated to wine and cheese that serve until the wee hours of the night. My version of paradise. The trendy little macarons all over Toronto don’t even compare to those in the boulengerie’s of Paris. Even if the packaging says they were imported. France may be the one place (okay, there’s also Italy) where you can pig out and not really feel bad about it.

The romance.
Paris is always romanticized in movies and books as the place to find love or be in love. Though it may not be true it’s always nice to walk around with that feeling and play into the fantasy a little bit. Why not? The idea has to pop into the heads of pretty much everyone who visits. I mean, c’mon, think about all of the honeymoons that have taken place in Paris. Exactly. And how many times has French been called the language of love? But even if you can’t speak French, or it sounds far from romantic when you try, you’ve always got the beautiful old buildings, cobblestone streets, Seine River and Eiffel Tower to make a pretty great backdrop for your own little movie.

The history.
Not only are there some of the best and most renowned galleries, museums, monuments and landmarks in Paris but the city also happens to have been home to many famous and important woman. The fashion-legend Coco Chanel, the writer Nancy Mitford, the uninhibited Marie Antoinette and the Auschwitz survivor Charlotte Delbo are only some of the barrier-breaking, outstanding women that have loved the incredible city of Paris.
