Polish Fashion Photographer Shares His Secrets
If there is one thing that self-taught
photographer Lukasz Wierzbowski has learned in his 27 years, it’s that
sometimes you have to do a little, or, a lot of what you don’t like, to
figure out what you do like.
A second might be that boredom and curiosity are, at times, a winning combination.
A young – er – younger Lukasz bounced
around between many life paths in his college daze. He entertained the
idea of studying art history, as he always felt some magnetism toward
the subject. Instead of picking up a paint brush, he found a curiosity
for periodontal probes, and pursued his study in dentistry. Soon boredom
kicked in, and Lukasz opted for another doctor-related field, finding a
new path of study in psychology. Through his years of schooling, Lukasz
would become aware of his one true passion – photography – something
that had not changed since his childhood.
Instead of changing his major again, he continued on with psychology, but made time to snap photos when he could, and get back in touch with to his inner-child. As he tells it, ‘my father introduced me to photography when I was still a kid. Afterward, I had like ten years break, and was doing different stuff. I came back to photography probably three years ago. I remember in high school, I was very much into making short movies with VHS camera. After few years I got bored with it and switched to photography.’
Call it humble or uncertain, Lukasz has a hard time accepting the title as ‘photographer’, ‘but’ he says, ‘I’m getting used to it, just as I did with being called dental technician and psychologist. I’m usually trying to avoid labels of any kind.’ When asked what kind of photographer he might be, he offered he was ‘probably considered a portrait photographer.’ And lucky for us, Lukasz admits ‘I wasn’t sure about which pictures to pick [for the story] as I don’t really have the favorites, so instead I prepared a little selection of unpublished photos just for you. I hope you will be able to pick something you like.’ It was tough, Lukasz, but our selects are after the jump.
Making plans of moving someplace else, Lukasz currently lives and works out of Wroclaw, Poland. So, will Lukasz stick with photography? We hope so, but no one can be sure. The truth is, if Lukasz Wierzbowski had it his way, he’d be ‘a rock star, in some really cool indie band. His instrument? A tambourine. ‘I always wanted to play tambourine in a band’ he says. ‘Maybe one day.’
