Bloggers Doing Big Things

Yes,
it’s true. There are an abundance of blogs online to choose from. Just
about any subject you seek, there will be a blog out there about it.
There
are blogs that focus on things like movies, food, fashion, wine and
travel. And just as many blogs as there are out there, there are the
bloggers behind them.
Regardless
of his or her subject, a good blogger combines great humour with
hands-on experience in, and deep knowledge of, their field.
Here are some of WOMAN.ca’s favourites, right now.
1) Natalie Suarez of Natalie Off Duty
This
fashion blogger is one of my favourites. As a model, Suarez knows tons
about major designers and the latest trends to watch out for. This
aspect of her expertise is brought together with her love for vintage
pieces, and this is what I love about the blog – Suarez has mastered
the art of fashion fusion. Most fashion bloggers come down in favour
either of current or of vintage trends, but here the two are combined.
Beautiful pictures, in tandem with amusing anecdotes about life as a
model and the stories behind some of the pieces she wears, make her
someone to definitely watch; not to mention-she often does give-a-ways.
2) Being, Nothingness, and the Perpetual Hunger, Joel Brown
Between
his background in creative writing, and the fact that he’s both a
graduate of Le Cordon Bleu in Paris and a certified butcher, Brown has
all the raw material to make a great blogger. Moreover he’s hilarious
and witty – if you hadn’t already guessed that from his blog’s name.
Vegetarians and vegans should probably stay from this blog, but for
those of us who could never dream of going even a day without meat,
it’s perfect. I can definitely see Joel Brown becoming the next Anthony
Bourdain.
3) Vivek Wagle for Lonely Planet
Those
of us who are on a tight budget, but still have the travel bug, are no
strangers to the Lonely Planet series. Vivek Wagle, Head of the
Editorial Department for Lonely Planet, has started his own blog.
Though it also features stories about politics and music (among other
subjects), all his stories are tied in to travel. And, unlike the vast
majority of travel bloggers, Wagel really opens up endless opportunity
for eating well, drinking well, and sleeping well on a tight budget.
Further, as most Lonely Planet readers know, if you follow his personal
printed tours you’ll see things that go far beyond the typical tourist
experience.
4) Tassoula’s Movie Review Blog, Tassoula E. Kokkoris
Kokkoris’
writing makes it plain and clear: she’s passionate about film. Every genre of film
and every aspect of filmmaking, this girl is in love. She writes about movies made by others
as if she had made them herself, offering detailed and precise
descriptions of what makes (or breaks) a movie. Further, unlike most
movie bloggers, she writes about films both old and new, and often
comparatively.
5) Jamie Goode’s Wine Blog
Picking
a good wine can be quite difficult. If you are only beginning to
develop a taste for great wines, a trip to the LCBO can be one big
scavenger hunt; you’re probably going to make a lot of mistakes before
you find a great vintage. Jamie Goode not only tells you what’s great
and worth the money, but takes you with him all he visits vineyards all
over the world. Goode provides not only exceptional descriptions of
delicious wines, but also videos and photos of vineyards, winemakers,
and tasting seminars.
