Artist Profile of an Illustrator
Robin Miao Wang is an illustrator based out of China. Robin looks at herself as an artist. It’s in her very soul. Of course, Robin loves drawing, painting, and photography. It’s these things that make her a better artist, and things she can’t live without. Robin doesn’t just illustrate. Each illustration is an expression of her feelings. Robin pursues ceaselessly to be true to herself through her art. She is a self-proclaimed wanderer of life, ever searching the real ‘home’ for her artist soul.
Having spent the past two years working in finance, Robin Miao Wang is currently pursuing her passion for art, dedicating herself to the creative and culture industry.
Robin's two dimensional illustrations are full of real life emotion, that make them almost seem more character than just an image. Her fashion illustration doesn't exemplify just the clothing, but makes the wearer appear as though she has an opinion of what she is wearing. There always seems to be a little bit of sadness, but it might just be a lot of attitude.
Being into poetry, Robin precedes her illustrations on her online portfolio, with a poem for each. Like "Love Mime" a 6 part series of images, that use grey, blues and blacks to depict a lonely heart. The smudge affect makes this set of illustrations appear as though they have been caught in the rain, or maybe held by the hands of a girl shedding tears. Robin writes: "I'm a little girl, falling in love with you, I'm in hell you know, don't leave me in sorrow, Bet you need a hole, bury and fulfilled, You don't see that girl, your baby doll."

Her illustrations range from portraits, to fashion illustration, to documentary and travel journals. In each, there are a few constant elements; her use of thin black lines to outline the shapes, use of blending, bright colours. To achieve this, she uses ink and water colours.
The girls in her illustrations portray the looks of young, maybe even naive women. They too look as though they have artistic souls. Perhaps its an intuitive side that allows her to express her soul and the artistic souls of other women she sees, into her illustrations, that make them so convincing. In their simplicity, Robin Wangs illustrations are truly captivating.
Robin's work has been featured on Shanghai Squared and Thrill Seekers, a tumblr blog, as well as Cargo Collective.
“Hi, I’m Miao. You can also call me Robin. I’d be happy if you feel interested in my art. I’m available for commission.”
