At first glance, being the FLOTUS seems like it would be a dream come true. Tons of glamorous outfits, rubbing elbows with some of the most powerful people in the world - and did we mention that the fact that your husband is the most powerful man in the world is bound to be a serious aphrodisiac? But in the era of 24-hour news cycles and gossip rags, being the First Lady is like being the popular girl in high school that everybody wants to take down a peg or 10. You're going to see your face on every magazine - and not always in a flattering way.
So who could blame Michelle Obama, who was famously reluctant to let her husband run for president? Sure, she's enjoyed a lot of perks - but she's also been picked apart for everything from her muscled biceps to her Let's Move anti-obesity campaign to her fashion sense. She's not the only potential First Lady without doubts, according to Politico. With the 2012 Presidential Election on the horizon in the U.S., plenty of potential candidates wives are speaking out about their doubts and fears should their husbands run. And let's not forget that at least two ladies - Michele Bachmann and Sarah Palin - are flirting with throwing their own hats in the ring. Is the U.S. ready for a First Gentleman?
