How Do Your Driving Habits Affect the Environment?

alt

Did you know that speeding, accelerating and heavy breaking while driving can deplete the efficency of your car by 33%? CAA does, and they want all you drivers out there to be informed about how your driving is effecting the environment.

The threat of climate change is like that big elephant in the room that everybody sees but nobody knows how to deal with. It's overwhelming when you consider the potential impact climate change could have on the future of Earth. Real change will not happen unless we all examine our role in the environment and make lifestyle changes that will help preserve our planet for future generations.

The CAA, in conjunction with Trees Ontario, has made taking the first step painless. By accepting the Autogreen Challenge, anybody can make a difference.

Not all cars are created equal, nor are all driving practices. CAA's challenge educates drivers on the most eco-friendly ways to drive; including which fuel-efficient vehicles are the best, how to improve driving habits and the ropes of green-friendly servicing.

Each time you take the challenge, CAA will plant and tree and nurture it for five years. One tree releases enough oxygen into our atmosphere to support two human beings for a year. And if that isn't motivation enough, taking the Autogreen Challenge enters you into a draw to win your choice of one of three very cool hybrid vehicles (a Toyota Prius, Camry, or Highlander). The contest runs until August 7, 2009

Participation is simple. Test yourself with the Eco-vehicle Tech Shop Quiz, purchase a CAA Green Power Battery, or better yet, bring in your old car batteries for proper disposal. For a complete list of how you can help, visit CAA's website. The site is very easy to use and even easier to pass along to friends and family. Getting involved in the restoration of our environment is vital for everyone. We all need to pitch in and help clean up the only place we have to call home.
