Panasonic Trade Your 'Wave Event

Look Toward A Greener Future

Does your microwave still have a chocolate brown body and garish black buttons? You're not alone. It is estimated that more than six million Canadians continue to hold onto microwaves that are at least a decade old. This Labour Day weekend, the Panasonic Trade Your Wave pilot program challenges consumers to dispose of their relics the greener way by dropping them off, free of charge, at one of 23 participating Future Shop locations in the GTA. The event starts at noon on Friday, September 4th and runs through Sunday, September 6th. The Panasonic Trade Your Wave event will accept every brand of microwave and safely dispose of them. In addition, participating consumers will receive up to $50 in savings should they choose to purchase a new, energy efficient Panasonic microwave during the event. Global Electric Electronic Processing (GEEP), a company specializing in e-waste disposal and one of the most interesting green companies in Canada, will ensure they are recycled responsibly. Let's keep our old microwaves out of landfill people!

When it comes to upgrading their kitchens, who knows what to do with old models? No Ontario provincial microwave recycling program currently exists. Panasonic's program is an effort to help divert waste that would otherwise end up in a landfill. A disturbing statistic: Canadians send more than 144,000 tonnes of electronics, including many household appliances, to landfills each year.

When: Labour Day weekend; Saturday, September 5 and Sunday, September 6.

Time: Friday, September 4th 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
