Go Green With Natural Acne Remedies

For those of us trying to "greenify" our lives, it can often be difficult to find natural health and beauty products that provide the same level of effectiveness as man-made products. Good news for sufferers of mild to moderate acne - there are natural remedies that boast pimple-fighting power similar to popular synthetic ingredients. Read on for a handful of nature's skin-clearing elixirs!

Tea Tree Oil - Made from the leaves of a tree native to Australia, tea tree oil acts as a topical anti-bacterial agent. Look for five per cent pure tea tree oil for a treatment similar to benzoyl peroxide. Apply twice a day to affected areas to kill bacteria.

Apple Cider Vinegar - Anti-bacterial and detoxifying, this specific vinegar is used to treat a variety of ailments, including acne and even shingles! Apple cider vinegar clears bacteria, as well as restoring the skin's natural pH level. To use, mix one part vinegar with three parts water. Soak a cotton pad with the mixture and apply as a toner twice a day.

Witch Hazel - Witch hazel is an astringent produced from its namesake plant, which grows in various areas of North America. It's easy to find in stores and inexpensive. Use pure witch hazel in place of your regular toner.

Aloe Vera - This gel, squeezed from the leaves of the aloe vera plant, is typically used for sunburn relief. The anti-inflammatory properties that ease the sting and redness of a sunburn do the same for acne, as well as reducing the potential for scarring. Apply alcohol-free aloe vera gel to affected areas once or twice a day.
