Doors Open Toronto Celebrates Architectural Achievement
Doors Open Toronto rolls out the welcome mat this weekend as the city's most culturally significant buildings open their doors for a peek at their inner booty.
Celebrating it's 10th anniversary and featuring over 150 venues across the city including historical landmarks, mansions, gardens, theatres and even a lighthouse, Doors Open Toronto is your chance to see buildings normally closed to the public, and it's all free!
Admire the domed ceiling and damask wall coverings of the Elgin and Winter Garden Theatre (pictured) the last operation double-decker theatre in the world. Stop by the Art Deco Horse Palace and see where Canadian Mounted Troops learn to ride. Find out where the A-List like to party at the magnificent Carlu Building, whose Concert Hall is one of the best surviving examples of the Art Moderne period and where Billie Holliday and Duke Ellington have performed.
The weekend is also a great opportunity to visit to venues that normally charge
admission fees, such as Casa Loma, the Botanical Gardens and kid-friendly Black
Creek Pioneer Village.
Doors Open Toronto is a unique chance to see a side of the city rarely on display,
and whether you're a visitor or have lived here all your life, you're sure to see Toronto in a new light this weekend.
