Nuit Blanche returns October 2, 2010

altNuit Blanche is a free 12 hour sunrise-to-sunset event to make contemporary art available to the masses and celebrate the visionaries behind it. Making public space a canvas for art in the community, the event situates exhibitions all over the city for open access and exploration. If you're an avid lover of art or an artist yourself, you're going to want to land yourself in a few of the over 130 locations that will be offered this year in museums, galleries, cultural and educational institutions. Projects range from a wide variety of both small and large scale installations, light sculptures, and plenty of unique creative expressions.

To accommodate the night hawks and out of towners, food and beverages will be offered along the Bay & Bloor stretch and onward to Yonge with many options for an affordable bite to eat or midnight snack. The city will be sectioned into three zones featuring various themes and concepts. Zone A will start at the north-east corner of Yonge & Bloor, the main exhibition curated by Gerald McMaster and focusing on the exploration of night and light sculpting. 21 independent projects will be displayed as well. Zone B, located downtown central/east, offers 40 projects with two separate exhibitions. Downtown West is curated by Anthony Kiendl and explores the concepts of cultural moments through art and popular music. The Downtown East exhibition is curated by Sarah Robayo Sheridan and focuses on histories past, present, and future. Lastly, Zone C located Downtown South/West offers a total of 62 projects with the exhibition curated by Christof Migone and explores concepts of movement, gridlock, and mobility.

The Nuit Blanche website offers an easy, user-friendly guide to the event with organized sections for what you can do and where. A full schedule with maps and a 'build your itinerary' feature makes your art exploration a simple one to plan before the big day. Make sure to check it out, you're not going to want to miss the biggest art exhibit of the year!
