Why The Library Is Cool Again

Relaxing, Eco-Friendly & Free: The Stacks Are Where It's At

HAVEN'T YOU HEARD? ("Shhhhh!")

Oops. Sorry. Psst, haven't you heard that the library is the cool place to be?

The stacks are no longer just for rugrats looking for picture books, or university students cramming to compensate for weeks of procrastination.

In fact, the library is a great place to spend an evening or a weekend afternoon. With all of the other pressures in life, it's nice to decompress with a good book, and a place that promotes silence in place of creating noise, and that won't break the bank when you visit!

Here are five reasons why the library is great:

1. It's Free
When was the last time you got something great for free? Books are expensive. The recession may have been officially deemed over but regularly spending $30 on a novel is not a reality for most people.

2. It's Green
Being green is cool and libraries are green. They're economical, they save trees (by sharing books, instead of readers purchasing their own copies), and they're all about supporting the local community.

3. It's Friendly
Libraries often have book clubs and author meet-and-greets. There, you can meet new people. Spot a cutie leafing through a book you happen to love? Go introduce yourself. It's like eHarmony for bookworms.

4. It's Helpful
Think of your local library as a self-improvement superstore. There are cookbooks for every cuisine and occasion, Pilates and Taebo DVDs, Guitar for Dummies, and a plethora of self-help books to help you become a better lover, teacher, and friend.

5. It's Peaceful
*Sigh* The sound of silence. The library is one of the few remaining places on earth where louder isn't better. Take a moment to hear your thoughts, clear your mind, and get lost in an amazing story.
