How To Spend New Year's Eve Without Spending Too Much

How Will You Ring In The New Year?

altNew Year's Eve is considered to be the prime time for partying, the most epic celebration on the calendar.

Break out the champagne glasses and Auld Lange Syne, right?

For some of us, though, New Year's is the most stressful festivity to plan for. Once Christmas is wrapped up and the mistletoe is put away, it seems far too tedious to be pulling all the stops for yet another big extravaganza.

Who has the cash? Not to mention, restaurants and clubs book up fast. So if you're thinking of going low key this year, here are some ideas:

Movie night with friends
Invite your best buds over for an evening long movie marathon. Make it a theme of your favourite flicks from your choice decade, or if you're still feeling the holiday spirit, finish up the rest of the Christmas Blockbuster hits you planned on watching. Just don't forget to hit 'pause' at midnight for the big countdown!

Fireworks
Most cities and towns do a fireworks display on New Years Eve. Get bundled up and make a thermos of your favourite coffee (maybe with a bit of Bailey's? Hmmm?) and go take in all the bright lights.

Cook Together
So you and your significant other want to use New Year's Eve to recapture the magic. Perfect! Instead of a fancy, pricey meal out on the town, why not cook a delicious meal together? Have fun planning a whole three course menu, and light a few candles! Once you're done, cozy up with a glass of wine on the couch.

Murder Mystery Party
Buy a Murder Mystery game or get creative and design your own! Invite friends who like to get silly and spend the evening in a suspense filled drama right in your own home. Use props, costumes, and get into it!

Hang out at Home
Flying solo this year? No big deal. Unlike Christmas Day, there's plenty to watch on television New Year's Eve and all you need is a good cup of hot chocolate. If you've been all work and no play up until now, catch up on some much needed rest to gear up for the new year!
