Protecting your hair from chlorine damage

altNow that the summer is finally here, you're bound to be spending more than a few weekends at the pool. While taking a dip can be refreshing and fun, all that time in the water can do some serious damage to your hair, especially if you swim in pools that are cleansed using chlorine. If you want to keep your hair shiny and beautiful this summer, all you need to do is take the proper steps to protect your hair from chlorine damage.

Before you hop in the pool, try wetting your hair thoroughly with water from a poolside shower or hose. Soaking your hair with non-chlorinated water means that it will be less able to absorb the chemical once you actually get in the water - and it'll clean you off before you go for a dip, so you don't bring any dirt and shampoo residue with you into the pool.

After you swim, immediately rinse your hair off with non-chlorinated water. If you can, hop in the shower and apply a little shampoo and conditioner - you can even use club soda to counteract the effects of the chlorine, if you'd like.

Taking care of your hair post-swim is especially important for blondes, whose locks can turn green from excessive swimming if they don't clean them well enough - but brunettes and redheads should also be serious about their summer hair care if they want to maintain gorgeous tresses all season long.
