We Kick Cancer in the Balls - 80's Apres Ski Style!
On Friday February 27th, over 300 of Toronto's young movers and shakers united at the Steamwhistle Brewery for the Testicle Festival, an annual event that creates awareness for testicular cancer and raises funds for The Princess Margaret Hospital. Everyone was decked out in their most fashionable '80's apres ski gear. The attire was shockingly awesome! From neon spandex ski pants and full one-piece suits, to yeddy's in jeans and rear entry ski boots. The mood was hype - hypercolour that is - and everyone partied après ski style as though they had just gotten off a long day on the slopes.
In 2000, my long time friend Craig England, founder and co-chair of the event, was diagnosed with testicular cancer. The medical staff at the Princess Margaret Hospital in Toronto were incredible in helping Craig and his family cope with the illness and to pave the way to a full recovery.
After various surgeries and months of chemotherapy, Craig was deemed cancer free. Craig's desire to give back to the cause that saved his life along with the tremendous support of his family and friends spawned the first ever TESTICLE FESTIVAL in 2007. It has truly been an amazing honor to co-chair an event with and for a friend of mine who will always have a special place in my heart. Nothing brings me more joy then giving back and supporting Craig.
This year, the committee consisted of 12 awe-inspiring individuals who brought their talents and passion to the table. With their help, TF2 was able to secure such sponsors as Rogers Communications, NHL, Iceberg Vodka, Barefoot wine, CTV.ca, Giant Leap, Amarula, Naked Juice, and many others.
With the help of the sponsors' amazing contributions, TF2 was a smashing success. Guests got into the après ski spirit with Amarula ski shots, a slippery booze luge, a photo booth - complete with blowing snow and danced the night away to the amazing beats from Toronto's very own Siamese2Hearts (DJ Sokes & DJ Sandra).
The Testicle Festival team are still in the midst of tallying the final amount raised but were thrilled with the enthusiasm of those who came out to support the cause. Who knew kicking cancer in the balls could be such fun?
