After 300 Pears and 3 Years Comes Libation Greatness

Before last week it never would have occurred to me that finding the perfect pear can be equated to finding your soul mate, so the case appears to be for Grey Goose's newest product La Poire.

On a recent Wednesday evening in Toronto, I joined a number of other lifestyle media to sample this new creation with François Thibault, Grey Goose's own maitre de chai the equivalent of a cellar master and creator of this spectacular blend.

Global Brand Ambassador Dimitri Lezinska, Maitre de Chai François Thibault and Sebastien Centner, Eatertainment

François spoke of how he tasted over 300 pears over a three-year period in search of the ideal match to blend with the original Grey Goose vodka (hopefully you won't have endure quite so many samples before finding your soul mate), and his inspiration came not from an expedition to an exotic locale, but the simplest of places especially for a French man his local patisserie.

One morning, François tasted a delicious 'tarte aux poires' on his way to work, and when he experienced the perfectly complemented flavours of the wheat used to make the pastry (also used to make vodka) with the flavours of the fresh pears, he knew it was a match made in heaven. Having spent many summers in the South of France (one of the many benefits of having a French mother) I can attest to the fact that nothing quite compares to the smell and taste of freshly baked pastries pulled from the oven at a local patisserie or boulangerie.

François' three year search for the perfect pear ended with him selecting a pear grown a few hundred kilometers south west of Paris called the D'Anjou' pear and known across France as the fruit of the kings thanks to King Louis XIV who had a particular penchant for the fruit.

While I have tasted my fair share of flavoured vodka and gin over the years, it was the lack of any artificial after-taste or chemical undertones that set this product apart from all the others. In my ever-evolving search for new and exciting products to incorporate into my own entertaining, I was thrilled to have found a product that tasted as unique and authentic as this one.

So as François embarks on his next search (we won't know what it is for at least three years) the rest of us can enjoy the fruit of his labour, Grey Goose La Poire!

So until next time, entertain well, entertain often and in true French spirit Santé',
