The other way to do Mother's Day

altIn case some of you forgot, here's your preemptive wake-up call for this year's Mother's Day - time to get cracking. Next Sunday, May 8th, mamas everywhere will be receiving their dues - but some of you may not want to do the standard flowers and breakfast in bed thing, and we get that. Here are a few slightly more unique ways to show the most important woman in your life just how much she matters.

1. Make a video card. This is great if her bedside table drawer is already too full with paper cards you've given her throughout the years. It might take a bit of extra time and effort, but the result will be well worth it. Draw up a short script (it doesn't have to be longer than 30 seconds), tape yourself talking or maybe doing an interpretive dance or whatever, set some music to it and make a few small edits - voila!

2. Make her something by hand. There's nothing wrong with jewelry or flowers, but it'll be that much more meaningful coming from your own pair of skilled hands. It may be too late at this point to plant something from scratch, but if you have a few crafty bones in you, making a piece of handmade jewelry (or a vase) would be an excellent way to return some of that creativity to the lady you probably got it from.

3. Make a donation in her name. Many people are forgoing gifts on their birthdays, showers, anniversaries and more in lieu of a charity donation to the cause of their choice. If your mom is passionate about something, show her how much you respect her principles by giving a gift of good will in her honor.
