Do The Time-Warp With This Vintage Look
Nostalgia
is a wonderful thing. It seems that the rebirth of past trends are what
fuel today's hottest fashion epiphanies. We look at pencil leg trousers
and say, WHAT AN IDEA,' while our parents hold them up at them and
think, hmph, old news.'
Bobby Socks. You
may remember the look from Archie comics, or the movie Grease. Short
socks worn inside Mary Jane's, or dainty lace-ups in ice-cream colours.
A few years ago, they'd appear nothing more than costume'ish. Today,
they're all the rage.
In 2010, the Bobby Sock is back - with a vengeance.
Like
any style resurrected from the dead, alterations have been made. The
socks are not only white and silken, but rather worn in all colours and
materials, and beneath all sorts of footwear. Burnt Orange cotton,
Forest Green wool, even Candy-Floss pink with ruffles, tucked into edgy
platforms, traditional booties and modern MJ's.
This
look, worn all around F/W Fashion Week in Manhattan, and photographed
by none other than The Sartorialist (above left), is perfect for
those days when it's not cool enough to bust out tights, but not warm
enough to bear it bare-footed either.
Spice up your khaki's and pair this look with a rolled cuff, or play it prim with a floral skirt and a ruffled blouse.
No matter how you roll em, style 'em and pair 'em, Bobby Socks are killing it for fall.
