New Canadian Designer's Edgy Style

altVenus Santos puts redheads in lace and her own handmade jewelry for the look book showcasing her signature collection, VS .

Venus has many meanings. In Roman mythology, the name Venus, or rather, the woman, is known as the goddess of love and beauty, parallel to that of Aphrodite in Greek mythology. For science-y types, Venus is the brightest planet in the solar system. Astrology paints Venus to represent love, feeling, harmony, devotion, aesthetics, luxury, value, play, and the ability to give and take.

Accessories designer Venus Santos lives up to her name, sharing with us her heavenly qualities, in her jewelry line, VS by Venus Santos.

The Toronto native wasn t always inclined to design. Her signature line, her first, started as a venture to design and hand make one-of-a-kind pieces for herself and close friends. Looking back, Venus probably should have made a few more, as her friendly creations quickly became something larger than she had ever imagined. Venus Santos was met with a huge wave of positive feedback, pushing her to officially launch her very own jewelry line.

On November 6th of this year, Venus boasted gleefully on her blog, I m so happy to tell you that my website has launched! You can now see my full collection.

Venus has always had an interest and passion for all things fashion. She worked in radio as Promotions Director for FLOW 93.5, and was one-time manager of household name, DJ Starting From Scratch. As Venus explored her design interests, her two worlds became one, allowing her to reveal her creativity and further explore her passion in the world of fashion.

But Venus is more than making these aint your grandma pearls. She takes designing and being a part of the accessories stream to new heights. First and foremost, Venus is an artist. I framework human senses and allow an outlet for personal artistry through my accessories. I mirror my designs to unite individuals who look to express themselves through and beyond fashion.

altVenus signature collection, VS. by Venus Santos has an edgy and distinctive appeal. It uniquely linked to the idea of individual empowerment of oneself versus (vs.) the world. The very materials chosen for each piece reflect this idea. Some represent a darker side of her personality, like for instance black onyx, Venus explains. Black Onyx is known as a grounding stone, which can be used to deflect the negativity of others. It can protect you from negative forces and influences that surround you. It also known to be valuable during confusing times in your life, as it is believed to help people who have trouble letting things go. They say Black Onyx is a great stone for entrepreneurs and inventors.

Venus signature line includes materials that sound like Greek or Roman goddesses themselves - agate, labradorite, hematite, lava stone, jade, rose quartz with other traditional materials like sterling silver and genuine leather. Venus also incorporates various semi precious stones, that also carry with them a symbolic meaning. Some define strength, others love, and still others, wisdom or clarity.

What next for Venus Santos? There is always meaning behind each jewelry piece I make. Much of the time, the actual materials I use carry their own meaning, which inspires me to create. With that being said, I want to share this with you, so I will be starting a series of posts on my blog titled Behind the Stone. This is just the beginning of what is to come from Venus Santos my devotion to canvas my love for fashion through my jewelry will brand and radiate from every signature piece.

WOMAN.ca wants to know, what your favorite piece from this stormy designer's collection? Would you wear it with lace?

About the author:

Sometimes she's a redhead, sometimes she's a blonde. Some days it's H&M, and on other days, it's Chanel. What ever the mood, she is a woman who is passionate about the arts, fashion and social media. Born in Toronto, Hilary Lauren Fox is an only child to artist parents - mom was an illustrator and pattern maker, dad was a painter.  Rather then studying the arts as her parents hoped for, Hilary opted for a degree in psychology with dreams of working in a clinical setting. But after graduating she realized that the apple doesn't fall far from the tree and that the arts was in her blood, applying her education within the art and fashion world.
