The Brazilian-born, Toronto-based designer was on a fashion hiatus
for some time in Milan. His return to the runway came in the form of
luxe-glam.
As part of WOMAN.CA's coverage for LGFW, we
headed out on a chilly Friday afternoon to the unfinished Trump Towers,
for the much anticipated Arthur Mendonça Fall 2011 presentation, as
part of The Shows by Paola Fullerton and The Plutino Group. The 9th floor salon room was inhabited by Toronto’s fashion finest, looking fab, even in ‘required-to-wear’ safety helmets.
Ordinary ladies were decked out to femme fatale status, as
models trouped down a slick black runway in impossibly high heels and
slinky ensembles, while David Bowie filled the room, right to the very
high-ceilings.
Mendonça presented full-length gowns, tuxedos, and
cigarette pants, citing YSL and Tom Ford. Lots of violet – did you see that purple long-sleeved V-neck gown?
juxtaposed by monochromatic palettes in interesting fabrics. Show
highlight and Mendonça’s “it” piece; a jumpsuit in black silk,
strapless and tuxedo-style.
Velvet turbans by Liliput. A fantastic end
to pre-fashion week. Stay tuned. And while you’re here, check out
photos. Special thanks to the ladies over at Knot PR.
