Want to get a bronzed glow this summer, but don't have
time to hit the beach every weekend? It's alright - life as an adult is
full of pesky responsibilities, which means you can't lay out as often
as you'd like to. But don't fret, this doesn't mean you're resigned to a
summer of wintry pallor. Follow our handy how-to guide and you can fake
that tan so perfectly, no one will ever know you didn't just get back
from a week in the Bahamas.
First, pick up your self-tanner of choice. We recommend tinted products, which allow you to see where you're applying the tanner so you can be sure you don't miss a spot or leave a giant streak. You can also choose between lotions, sprays and mists - but stay away from anything too dark, which is bound to look fake.
Before you apply the tanner, exfoliate! If you want to prevent awkward streaks and smudges, it's essential to have a smooth surface to work with. Work extra hard to exfoliate the driest areas of your skin, like your knees and elbows.
Finally, while you're applying, don't forget to pause occasionally to wash your hands. If you let the tanner sit too long on your fingers, you'll wind up with bright orange palms.
