Coco Rocha Makes Striking Appearance

W: What is your particular point of difference when it comes to original photography style?

Z: Well, I hope it's my eye! My fashion background [Zoë studied fashion design at the Parsons School in NYC] and love for contemporary art influences the way I see things, so that I can bring something a little bit different to each shoot.

W: Photographer you admire most?

Z: I have several. I love Camilla Akrans work, as well as Nan Goldin and then there's Inez Van Lamsweerde & Vinoodh Matadin.

W: What did you wear to the event?

Z: An Alexander Wang top from his Spring 09 collection, Ports 1961 pants, shoes from Zara, and my favourite black Miu Miu bag.

W: Finish this sentence: The designer I was most impressed with thus far during LG Fash Week is

Z: Personally I very much enjoyed the designer showcase at Holt Renfrew on Monday evening. I think Jeremy Laing's work is great ... The fabrics [he uses] are beautiful. I've always loved Denis Gagnon as his pieces are very strong.

W: Any other Canadian designers, perhaps not featured at Fashion Week, that you might aspire to own pieces from his or her collection?

Z: Renata Morales. I used one of her dresses in my Women X Women presentation.

W: You are up to some very savvy stuff this Spring. Do tell!

Z: I have started a blog called eyeteaze which I am really excited about. I've been collecting a ton of imagery off the net and from magazines and, realizing I had a folder full of this stuff, I thought it would be fun to share it with the world. I think it'll really give my clients, and potential clients, a sense of who I am and where I am coming from as it's really all about my personal tastes and influences.

W: Latest addition to your iPod?

Z: The new Deer Hunter album.

If you are in the Toronto area over the weekend, we highly suggest a visit to Fashion House at 560 King Street West. Drop in tonight until 6 p.m. or Saturday 12-5 p.m. This is the kind of Canadiana any true fashionista would want on her walls. And the gorgeous images are for sale (starting at $150) so the Woman team can't think of a better way to support some extremely talented photo artists.

Sara Graham, Fashion Forward
About the author:

When Malcolm Gladwell talks about “connectors,” he’s talking about Sara Graham. This gal-about-town made her mark spending five years in (and out) of publishing as Editor-in-Chief of Canada’s top teen magazines Vervegirl and FUEL. During the out part she created, designed and managed all aspects of Sister Underwear – a collection that was not only embraced by the Canadian fashion network of buyers, media and the public, but enjoyed repeat orders from boutiques located in the U.S. Although no longer deep in the publishing or fashion trenches, Sara remains curious and connected via her insatiable appetite for culture and travel. Sara also continues to produce fashion shoots through Project, her brand management company.
