Hot New Budokon Will Get You In Shape Mentally and Physically

From Jennifer Aniston to Courtney Cox to the person next door, we can all participate to the same type of physical activities, which is quite exciting. Budokon is no longer exclusive and has been brought to us by 889 Yonge and Sensei Jamal Pender.

So if I say Budokon, do you have idea what it is or what it means? Well, feel reassured neither did I until I participated to a class and did some research on this physical training. Budokon translated from Japanese means Bu-warrior, Do-way, Kon-way in more simple terms it's the way of the spiritual warrior. I recently discovered this way of life and workout at my yoga studio, 889 Yonge that has recently integrated the yoga schedule.

Coming back from Spain, where I was living for a year, I completely forgot about working out and instead took to eating to many tapas and enjoying life in an indulgent manner. So now, back in Toronto it was time to get on track and into my yoga routine and recently Budokon. This physical practise is quite recent and created by Cameron Shayne in 2000. It is a cross between yoga, martial arts and meditation, can you believe it! The beauty behind Budokon is that it not only strengthens your core muscles but also focus on your mind and way of living: "it's a hard core breath of fresh air". Budokon brings agility, power, focus and flow by introducing the six pillars of the Budokon:

1.Physical fitness
2.Nutrition for health
3.Critical thinking
4.Relating
5.Emotions
6.Environmental awareness.

This spiritual workout not only challenges you body but also your mind in staying focused and letting go of all your fears and anger. It is also a great compliment to any type of workout and will also give you spiritual focus. Jamal Pender, our sensei, brings us his expertise and technique with great passion and patience. Jamal Pender was born and raised in New York city and has been practising martial arts since the age of six and has gained the rank of San Bom Nim (master instructor). He became an aficionado of Budokon and became the first Budokon instructor in the province of Ontario. He teaches at three different locations: Stratusphere (Vaughan), Lulu Lemon and 889.

We are so lucky as Torontonians to have such an amazing opportunity, that we should definitely take advantage of it. So please come and join us in this spiritual and physical journey and I hope to see you there soon.
