Get Busy and Stop Over-Eating
Think back to a time when you were passionately in love, or playing as a child, or working creatively on a project. How did you feel? You felt great. you felt alive. Nothing about your task at hand seems like a chore.
It's like what they always say... when you love what you're doing, you do it well.
But in the heat of things, did you remember to eat? Did you leave half the meal on your plate, just to get back to where you were? OR did you just continue to be creative, play, or as lovers do disappear into your own world. Time just seemed to have no end. Everything was wrapped up in what you were doing.
Children totally understand this concept. To them, food is secondary to what is most nutritious and primary in life: fun and play!
As adults we seem to lose sight of this primary instinct. We are too busy to think about playing, when we have to be responsible and work. However, to be healthy and balanced we must work on more than just our bodies; we must feed our hearts, minds and spirits.
Have you noticed that when you are so wrapped up in a loving relationship, or creative project, your mind/spirit are completely engaged, and your reliance on food decreases? Likewise, if you are unsatisfied with areas of your life, you are dependent on food to cheer you up, soothe, or numb you? When your life is out of balance, no amount of food can feed you where you truly need nourishment. The food we eat is very important for health and balance, but what really feeds us -- a full, fulfilling life -- doesn't come on a plate.
What is fun for you? What makes you light up? What excites you? Make time for it this week! This year! It's a new decade! 2011!
Even if you don't have much free time for fun, try approaching a serious activity with an attitude of play! This can greatly reduce stress and anxiety, while bringing more pleasure to your day. Take your focus off food, try adding more fun into your life, and watch the magic unfold!
