Why Weight? Diets Don't Work!

Finally Be Happy With Your Body

Getting my weight under control has come from a process of treating myself, as well as I treat others in every way. Oprah Winfrey

Everywhere you turn, whether driving down the road, going to a party or turning on the TV, there it is, America's hottest obsession: Weight. Diets have become a billion dollar industry. Companies spend millions or dollars luring you to try the latest diet (low carb, high protein, low fat, you name it) with promises this will (finally!) be your shortcut to a thinner body. Advertising efforts also deeply affect children who develop distorted body images. Young girls are often on diets as early as 9 or 10 years of age.

Our culture touts diet pills, celebrity workouts, convenience foods, and trendy diets to help us achieve our desired weight, but these quick-fix solutions have backfired. America's populace has reached its highest weight in history. About half of Americans are overweight; one-third are obese. Diets steer us away from our common sense and dip deeply into our pocket books while eliciting few, if any, lasting results.

What ever happened to listening to your body? Each person has a unique body with different needs based on ancestry, environment, gender, age, and lifestyle. This is why diets don't work! How could one diet be right for everyone? There is no one size fits all diet! Fad diets are extreme solutions that offer short term results simply because they are too restrictive! Research shows that most diets result in a 10-pound gain once an individual comes off the diet. People who fail diets are not weak or flawed. Diets are absolutely impossible for a healthy human body to sustain itself on for any real length of time.

Don't be so hard on yourself about gaining weight because you cannot succeed with diets. We have forgotten how to listen to our bodies and are ignoring the emotional signals that cause weight imbalances. What truly nourishes us and balances our bodies is being around people we love, slowing down, and eating healthy, home cooked meals. We live in such a fast-paced world that we are always looking for the quick fix. However, making simple lifestyle changes and eating consciously will release us from the endless cycle of yo-yo dieting and create positive results.

Given half a chance, your body will balance out by itself, but this is only possible by getting out of the diet mentality and listening to your body's signals. Imagine taking all that time and outward energy you put into dieting and take it inward, really listen to your inner wisdom. You will surprise yourself! With careful thought and loving reflection you can feed yourself in a nourishing way. Work with your body, rather than against it, to bring energy, stabilized weight, and sustainable health. Give your body the true support it needs to have long-term, lasting results!
