Deciding what to eat each day can be a challenge. Should
you pack something? Grab a sandwich from the cafe next door? Pick up a
snack from the food truck that's always parked around the corner? If you
want to eat healthy and look your best, picking out the best, most
nutritious options isn't always easy. That's why TotalBeauty.com
enlisted the help of Kimberly Snyder, nutrition expert to the stars, to
help you pack a better lunch.
Snyder's first bit of advice? Skip the soda. Even if you're drinking something diet with no calories, you could be damaging your body. "Diet" soft drinks contain artificial sweeteners like aspartame, which, says Snyder, make up approximately 80 percent of consumer complaints to the FDA about headaches and other pain.
"Our bodies do not know how to break down the chemical compounds (which really aren't fit for human consumption) that artificial sweeteners are made of, and they are acid forming in the body," Snyder says. "The more acidic we are, the faster we age and the harder it is to lose weight."
Snyder also says you should skip out on heavy starches, dairy and fatty meats at lunch. These are hard to digest, and when you body is focusing its energy on your stomach, you won't be as alert and hard-working as you'd like to be throughout the day. Instead, go for a salad, some lean protein and some fresh veggies to look and feel your best.
