Grow your own heirloom tomatoes

altThere's no better time to bite into a ripe, juicy tomato than summer. Use them in caprese salads and homemade salsa, serve them on top of freshly grilled burgers or just eat 'em whole with a pinch of salt - no matter how you slice it, tomatoes are just delicious. And if you really want to taste the best and freshest tomatoes in the world, there's only one way to do it: Grow them yourself from heirloom seeds.

Starting an heirloom tomato garden this summer is easy, fun and - best of all - yummy. And since heirloom seeds can be saved, you can replant the same varieties year after year, and even pass them on to your children when they're old enough to have their own backyards.

It doesn't take much to nurture your veggie garden, either. All an heirloom tomato needs to grow is plenty of sun, rich soil, lots of water and trellis on which to wrap its vines. In just a few weeks, you can have ripe, fresh tomatoes picked right from your garden any time you get a hankerin' for a BLT.
